Snaphost for Oracle RAC on Red Hat Enterprise 4

We are planning to backup our Oracle RAC on Red Hat Enterprise 4 platform using the Netbackup Snapshot method:

1) Which is the ideal snapshot method to be used?
2) What are the requirements for the chose method?

There are many different snapshot methods available, and their requirements all differ.

Chech this document, Table 1-2 on page 33 lists all the snapshot methods available and their requirements.

why do you go with snapshot vs RMAN ?

In general, snapshot method requires specific hardware and its optional software.
These costs much higher than non-snapshot RMAN method.

Why do you plan to use snapshot?
If you seriously want server off-load, snapshot will be good.

Symantec sales rep might say FlashSnap! :P)

Hi,

The reason for using the snapshot is because:

1) to off-load the production server
2) the size for the DB is quite huge, > 700GB

It's possible right to perfrom snapshot with RMAN options?

"ideal snapshot method" for you depends on you environment.
FlashSnap be applicable to various environment  listed on HCL of both NBU and SF.
But, If you plan to use existing storage and licenses, it may become cheeper than FlashSnap in some case.
