Hi all,

I'm using NBU 6.0MP4 and I have an issue with a Windows 2003 client which has encounterd the above backup exit status twice over the weekend, see detailed status below:

23/01/2011 19:59:14 - mounted; mount time: 00:00:53
23/01/2011 19:59:18 - positioning CR6142 to file 5
23/01/2011 19:59:53 - positioned CR6142; position time: 00:00:35

23/01/2011 21:14:05 - end writing; write time: 01:14:12
snapshot error encountered(156)

Windows Open File Backup's are not enabled on this Client. Also I have several other shares on this server which completed fine so seems a little odd at 1stt glance.

Thanks in advance for any input.

I didn't have have the client in question added to the Master Server Properties 'Client Attributes' tab.

I will try the VSS method & see how I get on.

Thanks.

156  is often caused by the VSP/VSS cache file running out of allocated space. You need to allocate enough storage for snapshot to work for open files.

Refer to this technote to tune your VSS settings on the client

And VSP is used as WOFB snapshot method if you have never changed. Try to change the method to VSS instead. It's better than VSP.

Try disabling the Windows Open File Backup on the master properties.

Open the Master Server Properties
Client Attributes
Add the client there and on the last tab uncheck the box
Enable Windows Open file Backups for this client.

We've pretty much made this the standard fix for any windoze clients that get a 156.

I didn't have have the client in question added to the Master Server Properties 'Client Attributes' tab.

I will try the VSS method & see how I get on.

Thanks.
