Status 59 on backup

NBU - 7.1 Capacity

Media Server - 2k8R2

Client - Novell Netware

We're in the process of setting up our field offices, using media servers in each location, with physically attached robots.  I'm having an issue with our latest attempt.  I keep getting a Status 59, access to the client was not allowed.

We've checked the Servers entry on the client, and that's fine.  I've looked at the bpcd log, and all the hostname comparisons succeed.  I've attached the latest bpcd log file, from a manual job run just prior to this posting.

Are there other logs I should be looking at to troubleshoot this issue?

As always, all tips/guidance/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Joe

On Windows clients, enable bpinetd debug logging as follows:

Create a bpinetd debug log directory on the client.

Increase the debug or log level.

Retry the backup and examine the resulting logs to determine the cause of the failure.

also

Verify that NetBackup for Windows software was installed under a Windows administrator account.

If NetBackup is under another type of account, reinstall it under an

administrator account. The installation completes successfully under a

non-administrator account except for the following: the NetBackup Client

service is not added to Windows and the NetBackup server cannot access

the client.

Verify that the Windows TCP/IP service specifies the domain server that

resolves names for the subnet that contains the NetBackup servers.

UNIX, Linux, and Windows clients are frequently not on the same subnet

and use different domain servers. When this condition exists, NetBackup

servers and Windows clients may be able to ping one another, but the server

still cannot access the Windows client.

If NetBackup use multiple network interfaces with media servers, make sure

the interface names appear in the clients /usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf file.

The bpcd log looks like the media server's bpcd log. bptm and bpbrm is forked, which only happens on a media server. You need bpcd log on the Netware client.

I missed that so completely :(

What version of netware and nbu client.  I know for our old netware servers we had to have an old client on so we are required to use bpcd instead of vnetd.

Thanks,

No worries, Bill :)

Client OS is Netware 6.5 SP8

NBU client on that box is 6.5GA

Looking at the bpcd log from the client showed an error with the verification of the master server.  The admin of this client box also found multiple HOSTS files, so he's trying to figure out why that is, and troubleshoot that issue.

Hi J,

Entry for media server in bp.conf file is required, you can do it in two ways either:

go to /usr/openv/netbackup/bp.conf

SERVER = MEDIA SERVER

or got to host properties of client and then under Servers you can add the media server. I think backup should go fine with this.

"bpcd log from the client showed an error with the verification of the master server.  The admin of this client box also found multiple HOSTS files"

Have you/admin been able to update the correct hosts file?

As per NBU for Netware Guide, hosts file should be here:

To add an IP address to the NetWare server’s hosts file
1 At the system console, type the following: load edit sys:etc\hosts
2 Press Enter.

Kindly check DNS forwarding on DNS server, If Master and Client & Media servers are in different network or behind firewall.
