Dear All,
Hope everything is fine.
I'll start a project of upgradation of Netbackup 6.5 to 7.
Currently they have Netbackupp 6.5 on Susi Linux 10 64bit.
They have SAN storage of netApp 3020 as primery and Netapp 6030 as secondary(means all the SAn backup is done inn Primery and then snapshot is taken to secondary).
A Robotic Tape Librery connected with the SAN Switch.
They have also RHEL (32bit).
My Question were:-
1. Is 6.5 compatability to 7.0.
2. How to upgrade to 7.0 off all the server.
Thanks.

Unfortunately no shortcuts - you need to work your way through all the documentation.
Start with the Compatibility Lists: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH59978
Next stop is the Upgrade Portal: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH74584
NBU 7 documentation: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH126327
Important manuals: Release Notes (for server patch requirements, known issues, what's new, backward compatibility) and Installation Guide (for requirements and step-by-step upgrade instructions).
Last but not least : Late Breaking News: http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH126330

Hi,

One more thing.
The RHEL 32-bit is not supported by version 7.0, so you'll need to keep those clients on 6.5. 6.5 Clients and Media Servers can still work with 7.0.

Hi,
Is is not possible to keep RHEL (32bit) with the same old Client 6.5?
Will that support Serevr 7.0 to fetch data backup from 6.5 Clients.
If yes , what could be the drawbacks.
Thanks.

That is what Riaan tried to explain - 6.5 clients are perfectly supported with 7.0 server.
I have recommended in my post that you use Release Notes to verify backward compatibility. You would have seen the diagram that explains supported versions.
Find the link to Release Notes on the 'NetBackup Documentation' link.

Hi,
I think we've covered that 6.5 clients will work with 7.0 servers :)
Only drawback in running this type of setup is that you do not have access to version 7.0 features that would exist on the client side i.e. "client side deduplication" etc.
Its a trade-off you have to accept.

Hi All,
I was preparing a docs on the steps involved (Along with the commands). For my project need to be carry out for next week.
I could'nt undestand the 3rd key points which states
" The install script will after having installed updated Sybase 11 binaries and before upgrading the existing Sybase 9 Database and database schema, make a backup copy of the database and place this in the staging directory. This backup copy will remain in the staging directory until the first Hot Online Catalog backup is successfully run of the new NetBackup 7 installation. This backup copy can be used to fall back on should a failure occur at any point during the database upgrade......."
What exactly need to be done over here and waht does they mean for "Staging Directory".
Does it pointing to a particular step or command that need to done.
Or
We have to simple copy of some files from a particular directory.
The link given in the technote was just in case of failed database upgrade.
Thanks.
Riaan - And sorry for that Client 6.5 access to Server 7.0. Here I mean to say that does RHEL (32bit) having Client 6.5 supported to fetch backup and provide it to Server 7.0.1, I guess 32 bit will not be issue as 7.0 have stopped the support for 32bit.

Hi,
You dont have to do anything, the quoted BOLD section is just telling you that during the upgrade the installer will perform these actions for you. It will make a copy of the database and keep it safe. Once the catalog backup has run, it will remove the copy.
RHEL 32-Bit with 6.5 client can be backed up and restored from a 7.0 Master/Media!
