I have read Netbackup for VMware which was of not much helpful.

Hi,
backup host can be a suse linux 7.5.0.1, but start of 7.5.0.5 can be a redhat, but you need to check the compatability.

Hello Harish,
you have to check NetBackup Master Compatibility List
For your specific question, please find the answer in
Statement of Support for NetBackup 7.x in a Virtual Environment
page 15, in section "Supported platforms for the VMware backup host and backup media
server".
Yes, Vmware backup host may be virtualized but in this case there are some restrictions.
Hope this helps.

NetBackup for VMware Backup host on SuSE Linux Enterprise Server: With NetBackup 7.5.0.3, your SuSE Linux Enterprise Server can be a VMware Backup host with full VADP support.
I would say its best to have it as a physical server to offload any processing from the ESX servers.
Hope this helps.
