You might want to put in a bit about the NBU environment and how its connected etc and what steps you've taken to trouble shoot.

Hi,

Taking advantage of this thread.. We're experiencing the same problem. Our NetBackup Master Server is this:

HARDWARE Windows x64
VERSION NetBackup 7.5.0.5
RELEASEDATE Sat Feb  9 21:30:19 CST 2013
BUILDNUMBER 20130209

We are trying to back up some templates. Our only schedule is a daily full backup, but out first manual tests are giving an error message. This is a trimmed Detailed Status:

I'm still investigating whether there are some details that make copies of templates different from copies of regular virtual machines. In the meantime, any suggestion would be appreciated  :)

Thanks in advance!

what is the Vcenter Version?

does your backup host also in the 7.5.0.5?

when you get the failurs of this what is the eror you are seeing in the Vcenter?

also pleaes enble the verbose level 5 in backup host and collect the logs

install_path\NetBackup\logs\bpfis

The problem seems to be solved. Short list of facts:

- They were not actual templates, but virtual machines that remain stopped (nearly) all the time.

- A couple of virtual machines under the same vCenter Server were being backed up without problems.

- Deleted and re-added that vCenter Server under Media and device Maangement -> Credentials -> Virtual Machine Servers.

- Rebooted both the affected backup host and the Master Server.

Now backups for all the virtual machines that belong to that same vCenter Server are working, even using hotadd method, which is great.

Hi Nagalla,

My apologies for not reading your post before. vCenter is 5.1 and both Master Server and Backup Host are 7.5.0.5. Apparently there were no entries in the "Recent Tasks" pane of the vSphere Client related to this, but anyway now backups are working, as I have stated in another post.

Thanks anyway for your help!  :)

We saw this issue in our environment recently, where in vCenter some VMs displayed the error mesasge 'Unable to communicate with the remote host, since it is disconnected.' This in our case was related to the ESX host disconnected itself from vCenter.
