VMware in flash drive....for Netbackup

Hi,

We were going for a deployment of NBU for VMware.

Current NBU ver - 6.5

OS - HP-Unix 11.23

VMware ESXi - 4.1

Now the VMware ESXi is installed in the DELL Blade server in the flash drive.

We have planned to take backup of  '.vmdk" and ".vmx" file using the NBU 6.5 as a flat filebackup. For this we were not using any step that normally used for taking backup for VMware.

As NBU 6.5 does not support ESXi 4.1(As ESXi only support for NBU 7)

But now the customer is telling that the VMware is preinstalled by the DELL in the flash drive.(As per them we can not install any NBU client/agent in the VMware).

Dose any one came accross this such of senerio, please do help me.

Please, help me take backup of this vmware server.

N.B. - They have no Vcenter.

Thanks.

Hi,

For vSphere 4.1 you need either NetBackup 7.0.1 or NetBackup 7.1. There are some limitations with 7.0.1 though. Please the document http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH127089

ESX and ESXi are supported. NetBackup doesn't care which version or whether the installation is on disk (ESX) or Flash Memory/ EEPROM (ESXi) as we don't install anything on the ESX or ESX servers.

You don't need a vCenter, NEtBackup can target the individual ESX or ESXi hosts.
