I am planning on giving "VMware instant recovery" a try. The Requirments mentioned in this doc ( Requirements for Instant Recovery for VMware) are not very clear. Can someone please provide inputs on this topic
All Master and media servers in our environment are appliances (5230 and 5330s).
The doc says there needs to be restore host . Do we need to spin up an additional server to act as "restore host" to use this feature ?
Also, the doc mentions to install and configure NFS for "windows media server". We dont have a windows media server . All our media server are appliances. In this case, do we need to spin up a new windows media server to use this feature ?
Is it not possible to use the existing appliances to use VMware instant recovery feature ?
Can someone please provide inputs on this ?

I see this in the TN that you are referencing:
The restore host can be on Windows or Linux.
So, your Appliances are perfectly fine.
The references to Windows media servers is only if Windows media server is used.
NFS is by default running on Linux (including Appliances).
