VMware restore reported as failing

Hi

Been getting this strange behaviour during restore tests - any ideas?

The data is restored then NBU realises its failed and deletes the recovered data from the VMware datastore.  We restored the machine to a different data store and gave it a new display name and uuid.

The NBU account on vCenter was set-up according to the technote on what permissions the NBU account should have. There shouldn't be any problems there.

NBU= 7.6.0.3,  VMware 5.5

Given that media server is actually MS Windows it is unlikley to find the file /usr/openv/netbackup/.rename.9488  because that is a Unix path.

Hi Jim,

Since its clearly login a permission issue I would look at where you're restoring to. It might not have all of the required permissions.

You said it worked when restoring to a different location. The fact that it restores means it has enough permissions to put the data there, but there might be another operation its trying to do afterwards that is failing (enabling/disabling the network, power on, any of the options you see when setting up the restore require different permissions)

The rename file is a 'red herring' and not the reason for the failure. All redirected restores start off with Unix path. NBU then changes it to relevant Windows path. Check rest of log for errors.

The restore never worked.  That was our initial testing.  Its unlikely to be a permissions thing bacuse I have just completed a successful restore of a different machine to the same dataStore and same restore conditions

  • Changed Display name used same fomrat on both tests
  • Changed VMware ID
  • With configured network
  • No start machineup

The only difference is the failure is a windows box and the one that succeeded was linux appliance (part of the VMware suite)
