WSUS error message

Hi guys,

Had a problem during the last few months with the netbackup, one of the policies had returned 2 error message:

WRN - can't open file: F:\Software\WSUS\MSSQL$WSUS\Data\tempdb.mdf (WIN32 32: Unknown error)
WRN - can't open file: F:\Software\WSUS\MSSQL$WSUS\Data\templog.ldf (WIN32 32: Unknown error)

Was thinking of adding these 2 into the exclude list. Not too sure if this is applicable. Will it affect other files if I am to do that. Hope you guys can share your experience about this.

Thank you in advance

Yes, you should exclue *.mdf and *.ldf files on MSSQL servers; NetBackup cannot backup those files as they are constantly in use by the SQL server.

To backup MSSQL you can either 1) use the MSSQL Agent or 2) have the SQL DBA dump the DB into .bak files and then back them up during your nightly jobs.

Either way though, you should exclude those files ...

Assuming you're on 6.0, here is some reference material:
