clustered netbackup media promotion

Hi there,

I have two Solaris VCS clusters. One is a clustered NetBackup 6.5.6 Master/Media. The other is a clustered NetBackup 6.5.6 Media. The Master cluster nodes are about to be decomissioned, and the Media server to be promoted to be a Master/Media. Providing the name of the virtual NetBackup server (of the currently Media server) is changed to reflect the old Master/Media server will I have to?

1. Reinstall NetBackup on the currently clustered Media as a Master/Media

2. Will bprecovery on the newly promoted clustered server of the catalog backup taken of the old clustered Master/Media work?  I am aware there will be a need of some EMM hosts entries changes.

Your thoughts are appreciated.

Changing name of NetBackup server is not supported in general. This includes not only clustered virtual hostname also name of each nodes. Catalog recovery on the machines that has different node name and virtual name is also not supported. If you want to accomplish it, there are two options: * Uninstall/unconfigure NetBackup and cluster on destination machines, and rebuild them with names of previous clustes(nodename and virtual hostname must be same as it was in source machines). Then do catalog recovery on destination cluster. * Purchase service for catalog manipulation activities provided by Symantec and its consulting partners.

You will need to uninstall NBU on media servers and re-install as clustered master so that EMM database can be created with original master virtual hostname
