Hello Guys,
I have confusion about the 5x and 6x NBU. Can any one tell me why we could't run the hotcatalog backups with normal backup schedule in 5x.

First of all, this question is pretty irrelevant as those products are not supported anymore.
In 5 there was no database (EMM), the catalog consisted of flat files. So there was no cold catalog backup. Just a catalog backup.
In 6 the EMM was introduced so both hot and cold options were added.
In 7 the option for cold was removed.

I believe this type of backup will be inconsistent, as DB of NBU will not be in backup mode & consistent.

Why on earth would you be confused?
Are you still using any of these EOSL products?

The new features in 6.x was big news when it first got resleased back in 2005.
If you REALLY need to know, read though 'What is new' section of VERITAS NetBackup (tm) 6.0 Release Notes for UNIX and Windows
NBU 5.x reached EOSL in 2008.
NBU 6.x reached EOSL in 2012.
Time to move on.
NBU 7.6.1 has just been released.
