Check the Media server 's event logs.

Btw when the last time you clean the drive ?

The drive went down after a backup job ?

Check the dirve library physical interface.

Just list down the things that I will do.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

This usually happens when Netbackup find the drive not responding as expected.

Check the following places:

Windows system event log
bptm log
bperror -problem

These places will tell you why is it marking the drive as down.

You might try cleaning the drive to see if it works

I am very much agree with scorpy. I found that some times cleaning media does not give required results. and i have to manually clean/service the drive's head.

I have had this happen to me with one of our tape drives. It was caused by a new tape being put in the slot that the drive was trying to eject to.

One solution for this is to remove all the media from your library, inventory it and then bring the drive up. This will then eject the tape and you can put your media back in.

Either that or the drive is reporting that it needs cleaning or it is faulty. is there any lights on the drive itself saying error or cleaning?

No need to remove media from library, remove tape from drive with robtest and put in any empty slot.  Then run inventory.

Any output from the command tpautoconf -report_disc ?

Sounds like a spurious lock file somewhere.  why not delete drives it from the config, recycle services, add drive back....just a thought

Can you do a robtest and move tapes in and out of the drive?
Did you persistantly bind the tape drives to the host?

Hi

I had the same issue as well with my EML Tape Library connected to NBU 6.5.2 via FC. Its due to the Windows OS Architecture which such * cant differentiate the Ghost & Real.

I have done the persistent binding on my master server, its working cool now.

hi,
generally; if there is any hardware error on the drive; red number would be seen on the drive; check it phyically by opeing the library; what was the error it throws.. no error show. it might be an stale condition. go for an reboot of library and try.
