if alternate client is not the same server as media server. If alternate client is also media server then I think it should has the same OS as source client.
If I am wrong for sure someone will correct me ;D
*** EDIT ***
I am hoping You have seen these ones docs:
- Snapshot Client Quick Start Guide ( http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/290225.htm )
- Snapshot Client Administrator's Guide ( http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/290224.htm )

Same OS is not a requirement, as long as both the servers has OS greater than Windows 2003 SP2. SP2 is a requirement because of VSS updates available there.

On page 27 of the Veritas NetBackup Snapshot Client™ Administrator’s Guide (v6.5) says this.

NOTE: All clients must be of the same OS.

Although this does not stand out very clearly, if you look at the diagram and read the lines before and after, you'll find alternate client (media server as alternate client) need to be the same OS as the original client.

My question is different platform, say HP-UX and AIX. Any idea?
