previously when we upgraded from 7.5 to 7.5.0.5, the patch upgrade done on master server (redhat 6.x) rendered nbu unable to start.
this patch, 7.5.0.6, has no mention of dependencies (or even of redhat 6.x) that might affect nbu on redhat 6.x after the upgrade.
just saying.

I thing that you are talking for this problem

I'm very interested in your upgrade issue, because I haven't heard of this happening before. Can you tell me what happened and how you resolved it?
The only dependencies I'm aware of for 7.5.0.6 is that you install it on a 7.5.0.x machine. It definitely shouldn't "render NetBackup unable to start" in ANY situation!

that was last June of this year. preliminary report from tech support says something to do with "autofs" but i wasn't able to follow exactly what since our vendor was the one working with Symantec engineers. it ended up the vendor patching some files in Redhat 6.x to make NBU run again.

You need to get details from your vendor as to how autofs is related to your NBU installation and what exactly the issue was.
OS patch requirements are listed in Release Notes for the particular patch.

It might be better to send me a private message with the case ID. Thanks!

Stefanos nailed it - this was how we resolved your original case.
Given that these issues were resolved when you applied 7.5.0.5, you should have no trouble at all applying 7.5.0.6 because these specific issues, which have already been fixed, can not recur.
It should be noted that the root cause was/is a RHEL issue and not a NetBackup one.
