Not sure if anyone came up with a solution or if this is the same problem that I experienced. I found that if I add whatever the host name of the machine running the NetBackup Administration Console to the "Additional Servers", I am able to do the properties and the "Invalid Error Number" goes away.
Just posting this in case someone else having the same problem stumbles on to the post like I did.

For any machine running the Admin Console to be able to connect to any NetBackup machine (master server, media server or client) to see host properties, the Admin Console machine has to be in the server list. The master server name is actually the first name in the list by default, that's why those using the admin console on the master server would not normally experience this issue.
