When you restore the data to new location your existing mail file will remain in old location, it will not be lost.

The restoration part seems to be ok.  But make sure replication of the mail file (which is restored) is disable from mail application for that mail file before you restore the backup.

Also, as a best practice always restore in different path.

Will need to "restore to different location" when you're doing the restore, so it doesn't overwrite the existing file.

You have to merge those files by hand, netbackup can't do it for you.
