place all three master/media/client IP's and names into each master/media/client local hosts file. check for old entries in DNS,etc.
flush dns.
check name resolution using bpclntcmd

How to verify name resolution for Veritas NetBackup (tm) systems, using the "bpclntcmd" command

How "bpclntcmd -pn" is used to resolve multiple interfaces on Clients.

Dear Stumpr,

I have done the commands & output as below,

i am not familiar with this commands too much but output seems ok, please have a look:

# bpclntcmd -hn fs3
host fs3: fs3 at 172.20.0.25 (0xac140019)
aliases:

# bpclntcmd -self gethostname fs3 returned: robinho
yp_get_default_domain failed: (6) internal yp server or client error
NIS does not seem to be running: (1) args to yp function are bad
gethostname() returned: robinho
host robinho: robinho at 172.20.200.158 (0xac14c89e)
aliases:     loghost

# bpclntcmd -ip 172.20.0.25
checkhaddr: host   : fs3: fs3 at 172.20.0.25 (0xac140019)
checkhaddr: aliases:

# /usr/openv/netbackup/bin/bpclntcmd -pn
expecting response from server robinho
robinho *NULL* 172.20.200.158 40700

i'm running Mcafee on the win2003 client
could that be a reason of blocking bprd to work on port 13720

hi shiraz,

how did you solve the problem in the end?

i am having the same problem with 2 WIN2000 servers.  the strange thing is, there is no firewall in between and i have about 20 similar servers on the same network, but only 2 out of the 20 failed.

any ideas?

thanks,
ric

I was able to fix this problem by opening the NBU client > File > Netbackup Client Properties and on the General tab I checked "Allow server directed restores" and "perform default search".  I then restarted the NBU client service.
