If we want to convert one of these backups to an ESX VM, can this be done this through the local PC using VMware Converter?? with the NAS as the source (or a USB drive) and the ESX server as the target??
It is possible, though network latency can be an issue resulting in timeouts generating errors. On some ESX builds, you’ll need to putty the converted VMDK to the general storage location ESX use and then incorporate into a VMware guest OS container.
