Restoring Domain Controllers

Todd_Dabney
Not applicable

Here is the scenerio.

Two Windows 2003 Standard DCs. (Server A and B)

Server A holds all FSMO roles and was the first DC in the domain.

Server B was added later and is just a backup.

Server A's AD got corrupted and needs to be restored.  I have available backups that I know are good.  Is it just as simple as booting off the SRS restore CD and burning the image down on the disk?

And since I'm asking...what if it was Server B that had a hardware failure and had to recover to it after the hardware was fixed?

Is it replicating each other ?

Out of my experience: Yes it should be that easy, when you mark the restored backup of AD as authoritative, otherwise Server B might start overwritting AD data.

In most cases, domain controllers should be restored non-authoritatively
