Restoring SQL Server 2005 databases

QSS
Not applicable

Hi,

Please excuse the ignorance level here regarding SQL servers, but is there a document out there or can someone just briefly describe how one goes about restoring a SQL database from a BESR 8 backup ?

Another document on this site says that SQL Server 2005 is supported by BESR 8.

Thanks.

Backup Exec System Recovery is a whole disk/partition imaging and restore software with capabilities to extract various files from the recovery point images that it creates. This extraction capability is generally used to extract flat end-user data files like documents, pictures, and the like.  It is possible, if you know the exact files and their security and file system attributes needed by the SQL server to properly import a database, to extract these files using either Windows Explorer on a mounted recovery point image or the Symantec Recovery point browser. Steps on how to extract files from within a Recovery point image can be found within the following technote:

Exploring a recovery point through Windows Explorer
http://support.veritas.com/docs/297981

Mounting a recovery point from Windows Explorer
http://support.veritas.com/docs/297980

Unmounting a recovery point drive

Opening files within a recovery point

Symantec Technical Support would not be able to assist in determining the needed files or the proper import techniques need for a SQL 2005 database restore. They will be able to assist though if you needed to restore the entire SQL 2005 server system from its recovery point images if you choose to follow such a course.
