System Recovery on a VM

tcube

Good Morning,

I have a rather strange issue. I'm trying to backup using system recovery on one of my VMs. There are 2 USB backup devices that are on rotation that are plugged into the VM Host. The problem is, when the drives are plugged in, it does not always reassign the same Drive letter to the backup drives, forcing us to have to reconfigure the system recovery backups, else they fail.

Any one have any suggestions on this, on how to get System recovery to work with drives that are not always the same drive letter upon plugging them into the server?

Thanks

Use an alias to workaround this problem.

See admin guide for more details;

So I read through the document and attempted to set up an Alias. Explain to me how this solves the issue, as the Alias is based upon the drive letter of the USB drive.

The idea of an alias is to give the drive an 'internal' name that SSR can use to recognize the drive even when the drive letter changes.

It says exactly this in the UI when you click on the rename button.
