Did you mean:

This operation cannot be performed while Windows is running

I just upgraded my BackupExec System Recovery from version 6.5 to 8.02 Desktop.  When I try to do something like backup my C drive onto a USB hard drive, I receive all sorts of messages.  The one that is continual is:

"This operation cannot be performed while Windows is running.  You must complete this operation inside the recovery environment.  Would you like to continue?  Yes or No"

Windows Vista backs up my hard drive onto this USB drive without a problem.

Some of the other errors I have received:

The type of errors encountered indicate that this hard disk is about to fail.  It is recommended that this drive be replaced soon.  To ignore this error and backup this drive, select "Ignore bad sectors during copy" from the advanced options in the Drive Backup Wizard.
-Error E7C3000F: Device \\?\SymantecSnapshot0 cannot read 9184 sectors starting at LBA 43222696.
-Error EBAB03F1: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

Of course I checked the "Ignore bad sectors" option.  I have also reformatted and scanned this and other hard drives for errors and have found nothing.

As of this writing I have no backup.  Can someone help?

Hello,

Same kind of issue here ...

BESR 8.0.2 on XP Pro SP2 client.

Any backup creation (locally or to network share) will result in error:

"This operation cannot be performed while Windows is running.

You must complete this operation inside the recovery environment.

Would you like to continue?  Yes or No"

Windows event log will show error EC8F17B7 and error E0BB001B.

I do not use a USB backup location.

Harddrive is OK.

I returned to BESR 8.0.1 and no more error.

I guess there's a bug in BESR 8.0.2 (though I "only" have the issue on 2 clients out of 10 running 8.0.2).

Any idea ???

Thanks,

Yves

Hi guys

Had the same problem with 8.02 version, fixed the problem by going to the repair menu in the add/remove pgm.

OS: Vista 32

I also had the exact same problem on a Windows XP Machine SP3. Going into the Add - Remove Programs and picking the Change option and then selecting the Repair Installation has fixed my problem as well.

Thanks for sharing the real solution.

Before this I tried the fixinstall.bat but this did not work.

Cheers,

Paul
