behavior of new recovery point set creation?

I'm using BESR v8 with BESR Manager.

I'm having a very hard time understanding how the backup jobs are supposed to behave in regards to recovery point set creation on a schedule. Details:

1. I have a backup job set to run at 1:00AM every Tuesday.

2. In the "Edit Backup Job Wizard", I have "Monthly" selected in the "Start a new recovery point set (base)" pulldown menu.

3. The jobs never, ever, start a new "recovery point set"; it simply keeps creating incremental .iv2i files weekly. This has been going on for months and months for all my jobs.

Example directory listing of a typical backup folder:

07/08/2008  01:13 AM             3,331 YING.sv2i
06/03/2008  01:47 AM    23,772,528,640 YING_C_Drive001.v2i

Any reason why the software doesn't start a new .v2i file? I'm completely puzzled and frustrated at this point with BESR.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Dan

Sounds like your incremental backups are timed to start either at the same time as the baseline backup or a little before.  Can you alter the start time of the incremental backup to start a hour or so earlier?  You also might want to make sure you are keeping more then one backup set.

Thanks Jacob,

To my understanding, this is not possible with BESR Manager (which is one of the many annoying things with the software.) BESR works by letting you create a SINGLE job, which supposedly takes care of full backups (Start a new recovery point set), and incrementals (which is what occurs, UNLESS you specify that you want a new recovery point set.)

Can someone clarify this? The software itself is very much "dumbed-down" as to not really give admins the flexibility and control normally associated with backups, not to mention the lack of the standard use of industry standard terms "full", "incremental", "differential". The documentation is also quite vague on the subject.

Thanks,

Please note that this question IS NOT SOLVED.

I clicked on the "Solved?" link, assuming it would give me a yes/no choice. It simply permanently marked it as solved. ..sigh..

I've had a similiar problem, and you should try deleting your job and recreating the job, i know it sounds simplistic, but it helped me!

Thanks roninmagik1. I'll give it a shot.

At this point, I'll try a few last things before being forced to migrate to a backup solution that doesn't waste all of my time fighting with it.
