I frequently receive this error when trying to run a backup:

Backup- \\WUB-WEB01\C: Storage device "Dell LTO2 1" reported an error on a request to write data to media.
Error reported:
Incorrect function.
V-79-57344-34030 - An invalid command was sent to the storage device.

Followed by:

Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe00084ee - An invalid command was sent to the storage device.
Final error category: Backup Device Errors

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-34030

Any ideas? The library is a Dell PowerVault 132T LTO2 with the latest firmware.

Hello,

Since when does the error occur? It could occur if the device targeted for backup exec is busy.

Follow the steps below in order to resolve the problem:

- Stop and disable the Removable storage service
- Upgrade to backup exec 10.0 5520 in case you have not already done so. Here is the link for the upgrade:

VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 10.0 rev. 5520 for Windows Servers Installation Files
http://support.veritas.com/docs/277181

- Install the latest device drivers for 5520 from the following link:

VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 10.0.5520 - Device Driver Installer (20050815) - Includes Tape Driver Release (20050115) and Robotic Library Release (47) (Intel Only) http://support.veritas.com/docs/278408

Hope this helps.
