9.1 to 10.0 upgrade failed to copy over any data

On a SBS 2000 Server, the 9.1 to 10.0 upgrade failed to copy any data. I got a failed message late in the install that directed me to look at the ".out" files.

The bcp_out.out file has:

Specified SQL server not found.
ConnectionOpen (Connect()).

This is strange becuase there are other .out files clearly showing upgrades to the database.

Note: The database is a separate SQL server instance on the same physical server.

How can I recover this? And, what can I do or check as I've more of the same sort of configuration to do.
