A timeout occured attempting to send a command to the VirtualCenter or ESX server

Hi,

We have recently upgraded our VirtualCenter from 3.5 to VSphere 4.0 and are now being presented with an error on 1 of our VCBs when we backup our VMs via BackupExec 12.5.

Here is the error message received:

Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe0009563 - A timeout occurred attempting to send a command to the VirtualCenter or ESX Server.
Final error category: Resource Errors

We appear to have most of the backup, but a few VMs have not been included and the only error message we have is the above.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks.

D

Hello

Its a known issue, try the workaround mentioned in the below article.

Did you upgrade VCB to 1.5 update 2 ?

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately I can't seem to select anything from the ESX hosts within the BackupExec selections window. I can only see the VMs themselves from within the VirtualCentre.

Is there anything within BackupExec I need to change to be able to see the ESX hosts themselves within the selections window?

TIA.

Thanks for that!

Is there anyway I can check the current version of this on our VCB?

I have it installed here:

C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Consolidated Backup Framework\

Thanks.

View in add-remove programs (vmware consolidated framework) should be listed.

Or view the properties of a file (for example vcbmounter.exe) and see the version details.

Thank you. We are running 1.5.0.2192. I presume we need to apply this update?

Thanks.

I suggest to install the latested update (1.5 update 2) just to be sure, you have nothing to looze !

That sounds like a plan! I will give that a try.

I am concerned regarding selecting the VM directly from the ESX host.

1. I can't see the option for this.

2. If I vmotion a VM from 1 ESX host to another, will BackupExec know about the change? If I am selecting a VM backup on a specific ESX?

Thanks.
