Hi.

We have 4 servers, 1 main server which handles the backup jobs, and 3 servers with the remote agent installed. We have a 1/8 storageworks autoloader, with each slot partioned, and each job on a weekday points to a specific slot - this part is working great.

The problem we are having is the backup jobs are constantly failing if i use AOFO, which we have paid for.

This is the article in reference to our problem:

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/273455.htm

Error category : Backup Media ErrorsError : e00084ca - The data being read from the media is inconsistent.
For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-33994

I have 'automatically select AOFO technology to use' selected in backupexec. We're on Windows 2003 on all servers. Can anyone help please?

Hi,

The error 00084ca usually occurs if the media is bad, tape drive is faulty or the head is contaminated. To resolve the issue, we request you to perform the following.

1. Check the system and application logs for SCSI related events. Refer following url to resolve to Troubleshoot Event 9 and Event 11 Error Messages:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q154690

http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/191158.htm

2.Stop all the antivirus and other non essential third party software prior to start backup job

3. Make sure that tools like defragmentation tool are not being used during backup on media server and target server( if any).

4. Update the firmware of the tape device and drivers of SCSI controller with the latest version available.

-------------------------------
In order to isolate the cause of problem, please perform a small backup job using Windows native backup (NTbackup) utility and check the results.

Note: Stop all the Backup Exec services prior to performing backup with NTbackup.

If NT Backup job shows problem then it is an issue related to the hardware media

-Also perform a backup on backup to disk folder and check the results.
