Paul_Abresch

Does throughput rate slow down when using the AOFO option.
I noticed my rates have dropped of 50% using the AOFO option.

My job log looks like this...is this normal.....shouldn't it say

yes ....for "image used"

AOFO: Started for resource: "\\FALCON_FILER\E:". Advanced Open File Option used: VERITAS Volume Snapshot Provider (VSP).
AOFO: VERITAS Snapshot Provider (VSP) snapshot cache file settings for volume "E:" : Initial: 0 MB. Maximum: 6916 MB. File: "\\?\Volume{21b12518-7080-11d9-a607-009027553d22}\Backup Exec AOFO Store\_BEVspCacheFile_6.VSP".
AOFO: VERITAS Snapshot Provider (VSP) snapshot settings used: Quiet Time: 5 seconds. Time Out: 2000 seconds.
Note: Backup Exec did not perform a snapshot of all volumes simultaneously because the option 'Process logical volumes for backup one at a time' was selected as a backup job property.

I have seen a 50 percent increase in backup time as well and I call Vertas. They said the AOFO snapshot takes the backup twice as long. i no longer use the AOFO.

Hello Paul,

The throughput rate will be comparitively slower compared to backups without AOFO. Please refer to this technote.

What is the intended use of the Open File Option and the Advanced Open File Option?

http://support.veritas.com/docs/263784

You may also want to create separate backup jobs for different servers.

Let us know if this helped.

Hi

Tried to adjust AOFO default settings on the server where the AOFO is installed and it will not allow me to select another drive or destination for the cache file location. When I deselect default it doesn't allow me to browse to another disk for the cache file location.
This is Windows 2000 server SP4 with the updates in which the AOFO is installed.

Hi...no error...it just doesn't respond. I can change the default on my local media server but not the target server where the AOFO is running....tried on other servers as well and still no option to select another cache file location...

Hi,

You can change the default location of the cache file on that particular server and be assured that this would change the location for just that particular server and no other server.

Are you backing up any databases like exchange or SQL in the same job?

Have you tries splitting the job for remote and local servers?

IF antivirus is active, exclude the backup exec aofo store folder from antivirus scans.

Ensure that there is enough free space available on the drive, where AOFO is installed.
