Access Data across Spanned Tapes

Hi All - I've got a dilly of a pickle of a question:

I've got a client who has a job which has spanned tapes.  They need to access the data on just the second tape if possible, is this even possible?  I ask because their tape drive apparently corrupted the first half of an archive we need to restore, but they have a prior backup which should be similar to the corrupted tape that should be fairly static (but the goal is a system restore).  Basically, restore the prior backup's first tape, and then restore the desired archive's second tape.

Otherwise, anyone have recommendations/utilities for recovering corrupted tapes?

Bearing in mind that you don't "restore a tape" but "restore data from a tape" it should be possible to restore as much data as possible from the first set of tapes, note where it is in the restore when it fails, then selectively restore the rest of the files from the second set of tapes
