I keep getting the following error when trying to backup an exchanged mailbox. It actually happens on 2 mail boxes out of 10. It always seems to be the same files.

Backup - \\SERVER\Microsoft Exchange Mailboxes Access denied to file Username Top of Information StoreInboxMail Delivery (failure username@server).
Access denied to file Username Top of Information StoreInboxRe: Secure SMTP Message.

Kindly refer the following information which is related to the error message that occurred while backup of Exchange Mailboxes.

When backing up individual mailboxes ,VERITAS Backup Exec reports some of the messages with attachments as corrupt. The file attachments can be checked out not to be corrupt, that is, they can be opened, viewed, and executed. The attached files are a variety of extensions: pt, zip, txt, doc, html, MP3, and so on.

The mail messages and the attachments are being backed up and are fully restorable. The error is generated by a failure to verify the attached files, as Backup Exec also reports in the job log. This does not in any way affect the online backup done of the Information Stores.

Causes of these errors have been traced to (but not necessarily limited to):
This could be due to this reason:

BESA impersonates the mailbox account and logs on to the EXCH server through a MAPI client to send the messages back to backup exec, that when Anti-virus holds the e-mail for scanning backup exec assumes the request for the file was denied and reports it as access denied or not found.

We would suggest you to disable outbound scanning of e-mail during the timeframe that the mailboxes get backed up.

Resolution:

1) Make sure No Anti-Virus scanning is done while Backup process.

2) This could either be due to some corrupt messages in the specific users mailbox.Deleting these messages also resolves the Issue.

3) Anti-virus software accessing the Information Store at the same time as the backup, i.e. using the same Messaging API as Backup Exec does.(It is then recommended to stop Anti-virus software services when backing up the mailboxes).

4) Multiple levels of embedded mail messages (a message attached to a message attached to a message and so on)(remove message) Automated system messages (undeliverable, over size limit etc.)(remove message).

5) The message / attachment is really corrupt (can't open, view or execute)(remove message).

6) Virus infected Information store (clean for virus).

7) Very long subject lines (remove message).

8) Very long attachment names (remove message).

9) Very large attachments (might give out of resource like errors)(remove)
