BE 2012 upgrade from 12.0

Hi,
My reseller tells me that I can easy upgrade my existing installation of BE 12.0 to BE 14.0.
Now during the installation I can see that it is impossible. I found that article http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=HOWTO73273 where is:
"Upgrading to the current version of Backup Exec from a version before 12.5 requires a multi-step process."
Is that mean that I must uninstall old BE 12.0, install new version 14.0 and then configure all at the beginning? Or is some way to grab all settings from my old installation?
In this article: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH179344&actp=search&viewlocale=en_US&searchid=1353579058709  you can read: “In order to run a direct path upgrade to Backup Exec 2012 a version of Backup Exec later than or equal to 12.5 is required.”
So is any other upgrade method than “direct path”?

Hi M&Ms,

This is how I would do this particular upgrade myself:

1. Grab copies of your Data/Catalogs folders (stop the BE services) for your current installation, and then download the BE 2010 R3 ISO on the link below:

http://trialware.norton.com/files/fc/Backup_Exec_2010_13.0.5204_MultiPlatforms_Multilingual_DVD.iso

2. Mount the ISO/burn to disk and run the upgrade to BE 2010 R3. Don't worry about not having licenses for this currently. Run LiveUpdate and install SP2.

3. Download BE 2012 on the link below and mount/burn to DVD:

https://www4.symantec.com/Vrt/offer?a_id=91523

4. Upgrade to BE 2012 and run LiveUpdate to install SP1a. Once this is done, push-install the RAWS agents to your remote servers.

BE 2012 is significantly different to any previous version of BE so bear this in mind if you haven't seen it before. Also, don't forget to get hold of your Symantec reseller/licensing department and organise BE 2012 licenses which would be installed during #4.

Thanks!

Thank you Craig,

So I thought to do it this way. However I did not think, that I can use BE2010 because I do not have a proper license. Now I know that it can be done using the TRIAL version.

It will also be useful: http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH74415 .
For the older version but can be used as a scheme of action.

I already have the licenses and the DVD(iso) for BE2012, so I take to work.
