BE12.5 Virtual Infrastructure (AVVI) - Slow??

Hi all,

When using 12.5 along with the virtual infrastructure agent to backup a couple vm's (trial version) it takes a very long time, 2hours to be exact to backup two, 6gb vm's. seems to sit on 'exporting' for ages. (the vm's are switched off if that makes any difference?)

They are being backed up via b2d method (to local disks) and using the following settings on the vmware tab...

Transport mode - NBD
use vcb compact for vmdk files
export as single file
use GRT (tried this on and off and makes no difference to time)
use local proxy

any help much appreciated!

NBD backs up via the service console port of Vmware, and that port is crippled in ESX by design (something about low priority of resources or similar according to VMware).  It's something like 40MB/sec and even worse in vSphere4 to around 30MB/s.

The only way to get better performance is to do it SAN based.  or to install traditional agents in the virtual guests.

The licensing of the virtual agent allows for unlimited guest agents, so the traditional agent cost is moot in many cases.
