BE12.5 with AVVI restore to ESX server fails credentials test.

I ran a successful backup to disk of a VM sitting offline on an ESXv4 (vSpere) server.Because the VM lives on NFS shared storage, I used the NBD transport via the ESX server itself.  For credentials, I used the local user that I had configured on the BE server and also configured on the VCS server and all the ESX servers as admin equivalent. Again...no problems with these credentials as far as running the backup goes. HOWEVER, when I configure the restore job using the same credentials and click the test button when the ESX server is selected, the test stalls. Sometimes I can cancel the test in time to save the B.E. GUI from hanging; sometimes I have to kill the GUI. Bottom line: the same credentials that work for the backup do NOT work for the restore. What's going on here? All suggestions gratefully accepted...the sooner the better. Thanks. J

I have faced issue restoring VM using Converter 4.0 . This should be fixed in the near future. For now if this is Business critical VM restore then try uninstalling Converter 4 and install Converter 3.03(starter edition) Reboot is not required.

e000848c error - cannot attach to a resource; I have been through the troubleshooting suggestions on the Symantec web site for this error. No problem doing the ping-by-name either way. It really seems to be a credentials failure.

I did uninstall VMware Standalone Converter v4.0.1 and installed VMware Standalone Converter  v3.0.3 Starter Edition. The restore job still failed, BUT when I followed the advice in this link:  http://seer.entsupport.symantec.com/docs/321059.htm  , which was to cleaar the configuration checkbox and NOT add the VM to the inventory on the ESX server, the job succeeded.

I can't tell you which of the two changes actually worked, but I believe it was a combination of both, because I'm quite sure that I had tried the job with the check box cleared under v4.01 with a resulting failure.

Thanks for helping me.

The restore job succeeded. This was a test restore job of an offline, healthy VM. Now, I see restored files in C:\TEMP on my B.E./VCB media server.

Question: What happens now? Has the VM been restored to the ESX host where it lived? When I look at the VM's files in the datastore on the ESX host, I don't see any indication that the machine has been restored.  I just see the normal set of files that I backed up from. So I'm confused; is there another step I have to accomplish?  Thanks.
