BE12 + MS Exchange 2010 will work?

Hi,

I have MS Exchange 2010 installed on Windows Server 2008 (not R2). I already installed Backup Exec Agent on this server. My BackupExec Server version is: 12.0 Rev. 1364

The problem is that I can`t see any additional options for exchange in resource list on BE Server when I try to make a selection list. I was expecting something like SQL server where can I choose specified database to backup but there are only drives and shared folders to choose.

This is because my BE12.0 is too old or I must change something in configuration?

BE 12 is not compatible with Exchange 2010.

To backup exchange 2010 you need BE 2010.

Exchange 2010 requires a Windows 2008 SP2 or Windows 2008 R2 x64 media server with the Exchange 2010 Management tools installed on the media server

So is it enough to buy a new license for Microsoft Exchange Agent only or the entire server software and new licences for all agents?

No.

You have to upgrade your backup exec software to 2010 or 2010 R2 to backup Exchange 2010.

If you have a valid contract with symantec, you will be eligible for free upgrade to BE 2010. Then the licenses which you already had may do the job for you. Check with the licensing department.

After upgrading you have to push all the agents to remote servers also.

Also as i said in my earlier post you should have Windows 2008 SP2 or Windows 2008 R2 x64 media server to backup exchange 2010.

Thank you Kiran,
I thing I don`t have valid contract with Symantec. I bought all Symantec licences from Dell so I have to ask them.

If I well understand I must buy only media server software (2010) and I do not have to buy new agents licences?

P.S.
My media server is installed on Windows Server 2008 SP2 so that will be no problem to upgrade.
