BUE 9.1 and QualStar 4210A

Hi All,

Windows 2000 Server fully patched. QualStar 4210 A Robotic Library with 2 each Sony SDX 300C SCSI tape drives.

We recently upgraded from BUE 8.6 to BUE 9.1, rev 4691.

Our backup jobs are now failing. Previosuly, about 10 network jobs would regularly succeed. Now, we will see 2 successes and then a job will stall. A typicall error message is:

"The job failed with the following error: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."

Additionally, the Robotic Library seems to freeze - I observe that it looks parked, but the arm is actually moving up and down slightly.

These problems were not present with 8.6.

Any ideas?

Might be on the right track here...

I just installed SP1 (though Help -> About still states Build 4691, and not SP1). How does one verify what Service Pack/Hotfix level the program is at if About does not report correctly?

It has cleaned up an issue where BUE was incorrectly identifying the AIT tape as a cleaning tape in the Media Tab.

Also, BUE 9.1 was incorrectly stating tapes were in slots (even though they were removed and replaced with other tapes). This was after Restarts and Inventory.

Note:I/O error are device related issue.

First of all disable and delete the device from BE.
1) Turn the device off.
2) Turn the server off.
3) Turn the device on fist.
4) Turn the server on next.
5) Install the latest veritas driver from following link:

VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 - Device Driver Installer (20041101) - Includes Tape Driver Release (20041006) and Robotic Library Release (45) (Intel Only)
http://support.veritas.com/docs/273853

6) Repair Backup exec database.

Now run the backup job.

BUE 9.1, SP3 resolved the issue.
