Good day,
I am experiencing some difficulties in relation to a Backup Exec 2010 R3 installation, that is backing up to a Tape Library.
Issue: We noted that the Tape Library was not utilizing the LTO 4 Media in the correct way and the tape capacity was not being reached, yet it was displaying that no capacity was available on the media.
With regards to the issue the following work was undertaken:
At this point we updated the firmware for the actual backup device
The backup was then run and the correct results in regards to media capacity as well as compression were achieved.
HOWEVER - We are experiencing the same issues with the Backup Exec AGAIN.
Can anyone advise?

Could you post the exact error message you are getting in the log or alerts that may have been
generated during the backup.

Potential Cause would Be due to the tape Drive itself.
If You check the Media Being used.
Check these : Used capacity, Data, Total Space. The data would be Much Less compared to used capacity.
used capacity is where tape Blocks have been retried and marked as BAD. This Indicates a potential Bad Tape Head Hear for write operation.

Hi there,
Have you run an erase of the tape using your drive manufacturer's diagnostic utility? Once done, check if it shows the correct capacity used/available in BE.
You might also want to run a repair of the BEDB just in case there is some sort of corruption.
Lastly...make sure BE is fully patched with BE 010 R3 SP1 and the remaining patches...
THanks!

How much are you getting on each tape?
