Backing up NT systems with 10.0

I know NT is no longer supported by Veritas as of BKexec10.0, and have seen their reps repeat this on this forum. But practically speaking, can someone tell me from experience if I can expect success loading the 10.0 agent on NT systems and backing them up with a 10.0 media server? I can understand Veritas dropping support for NT as of 10.0, but am hoping that they did not break the previous functionality.

I also have an NT 4 enviroment, and I have just installed 10.0 for windows. The only way it works is by installing it on server 2000, or server 2003 machine. The media server has to be either one of those two. You cannot install 10.0 on an NT machine at all. However once you install it on a server 2000/2003 machine you can use a tool called Remote BackUp Agent to backup NT 4 servers. It works just fine once you implement it this way. Hope it helps.

Hello,

Please note that this configuration is not supported. You cannot backup NT4 using 10.0. Please refer the software compatibility list.

One more time...I KNOW that Veritas does not support NT backups on 10.0. What I am asking from the user community is "does it work"? The previous post by Fatah Syed would seem to imply that he has had success but his explanation is not totally clear.

The question is:
Has anyone had success backing up NT systems by loading the standard Veritas 10.0 Remote Agent on them and backing them up to a 10.0 media server running on Windoes 2000?

Once again Tom, Yes I have had success backing up NT 4 servers using Backup Exec 10.0 from a server 2003 and the remote agent tool. However the only problem that I am facing is a speed issue. I have a total of 7 servers and out of that 4 are NT 4.

Hello Tom,

As mentioned earlier NT 4 is not supported so we cannot guarantee that it will work.

Please refer the software compatibility list.
