Backing up remote SQL agent

My media server is running windows 2003 32bit. I need to backup sql 2008 which is hosted on a windows 2008 32 bit server. When I browse the 2008 server, it does not list sql as an option to backup. I can however select remote sql databases on servers running windows 2003 32 bit. What can i do to resolve this?

To backup SQL 2008 R2, you need BE 2010 R2 or R3.  Check the SCL's below

BE 12.5 Software (SCL)

BE 2010|2010 R2|2010 R3 Software (SCL)

Also, you would need to buy and install the SQL agent licence.

Is it BE12.0 or BE12.5?

What version of BackupExec are you using; i.e. 12.0, 12.5 or 2010?

Have you purchased the license for the SQL Server agent, and has the remote agent been installed on the SQL Server?

hi, thanks for the replies.

Its running 12. 5rev 2213. The sql agent and remote agent for windows servers are installed.Only the standard remote agent has been installed on the sql server. A normal file level backup on this sql server runs fine.

I just cant see the sql databases, which are sql 2008 r2. Any ideas?

have you checked the 12.5 Software Compatbility List for SQL 2008 R2 - as this version of SQL was released after Backup Exec 2010 was available it is possible that we never certified it for 12.5.
