I have a backup policy set for daily backup to disk and then to duplicate the job to tape at a later time. If for some reason the tape job fails and then the following night the backup to disk runs again the next time it tries to duplicate it will try and duplicate both jobs, which in turn runs out of space on our tapes and asks for a second tape, which is usually by the time there is no one left to change it and then the subsiquent nights backup fails because it is still waiting on the duplication job to finish. This knock on effect can take a few days to sort out during which time our backups are not running.
Is there a way to set the duplicate job to only try and backup the previous nights backup only and not all previous jobs that have not yet been duplicated? This way if the tape fails then we still have the backup on disk but not on tape, but the next day will only backup the previous nights backup.
