Backup Exec 12.5 - How to erase or overwrite overwrite-protected tapes

heinemasterklm

Hello all,

I am using Backup Exec 12.5 and wants to run a schedule job but it said the tape is overwrite-protected, the tape is actually for testing usage only so I would like to know how can I erase the tape or check off the overwrite-protected label?

FYI, under device, right click on the tape does not give me erase option

Thanks

Did you inventory the tape after mounting it?

In the Media tab, search for this particular tape.  Right-click on it and associate it with the scratch media set.  This will make it overwriteable.

You might also look at media sets and define a media set with just the right Overwrite Protection and Append period.

@pkh

Thanks for the info.

I don't see the particular tape in the Media Tab, I went there and from All Media, I don't see the Tape's name in the list.  What went wrong?

I didn't inventory the tape after I mounted it

I didn't see quick and long erase under devices when I right click on the tape and also I couldn't see the tape drive under media

but after I run the inventory process, it is working now. Thanks Ken
