Backup Exec 12 Cannot do an Inventry or Unlock Library - Error - e00081d9 - The Backup Exec job engine system service is not responding

I am running a Windows 2008 server with Backup Exec 12, my storage device is a HP 1 x 8 G2 Autoldr with a HP Ultrium 3-SCSI Tape Drive.

I have been using this set up for around 6 months with no problems until 2 weeks ago, now I cannot do an inventry, Quick Erase, Label Media or Unlock Library. If I run any of the above jobs the job takes around 15 minutes, the job types becomes Unknown, the Job Status becomes Recovered and the Error Code is E00081D9.  The error within the log is e00081d9 - The Backup Exec job engine system service is not responding.

Please does anyone have any idea's.

What is in the event log, when you receive this error? It seems job engine crashes, please check the event log for details on the crash.

Hi Michelle,

I'd start by turning the autoloader off, and then on again.
I'd then suggest creating a B2D folder, and running a small backup to that. If you can, the fault lies with your autoloader.

Run a series of tests against your autoloader, and see if it generates any errors. If it does, you'll have to log a call for HP to attend.
Chances that it's a drive failure if it is hardware...I am in the process of getting these devices out of my environment as they just don't last.

The event log error is

Backup Exec Alert: Job Failed

(Server: "BACKUP-EWE-1") (Job: "Unlock Library 00047") Unlock Library 00047 -- The job failed with the following error: The Backup Exec job engine system service is not responding.

Please doyou know of a way to resolve this.

Hi Grundun,

are your normal backups running fine, have you checked all the Backup Exec services running from Services.msc and tried restarting them ?

the services are:

Backup Exec Agent Browser
Backup Exec Remote Agent for Windows Systems
Backup Exec job Engine
Backup Exec Device & Media service
Backup Exec Server
