Backup Exec 12/SQL Server 2008

I have Backup Exec 12.0.  Is it possible to install it using a Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Standard?

SQL 2008 is not supported with Backup Exec 12, for installation or Backup/restore.  It is supported with Backup Exec 12.5 for backup/restore and install.

I'm afraid you'll have to bear with me as I'm not knowledgeable about Backup Exec.
I'm asking the question on behalf of the schools in our Local Authority who have to migrate their School Information Management System from MS SQL2005 to MS SQL2008.
They are on a variety of versions of Backup Exec & the question has been raised "what is the minimum version of Backup Exec applicable to MS SQL2008 (Express or Full Versions)."

Do I take it that it is 12.5 ?

Any help greatly appreciated but please speak in layman's terms.
