Backup Exec 2010 Small Business On Windows 2008r2

Hi,

We recently purchase a new server running SBS2011 to replace our Older HP that was running SBS2008.

We are purchasing Windows 2008r2 server standard to put on the old server that was running SBS2008 so that it can become an archive file storeage n the network.

Our old SBS2008 was also running Backup Exec 2010 Small Business Version with an LTO4 tape drive.

Can The BE 2010 be reinstalled on the Windows 2008r2 STD server or will it only run on an SBS version of windows.

If not what is the bare minimum version of BE that will backup just the files on the 2008r2 STD server to the LTO4 drive.

Or is there anyway that the new server which is running BE 2012 with an LTO5 could backup the 2008r2 server but to the LTO4 on the 2008r2 server using a remote agent ?

I do hope I am making sense.

Many thanks for your time.

If you are on a current maintenance contract, then you can upgrade to the BE 2012 SB edition. You can then use this log hence on your new server to backup the SBS OS on this server. Otherwise, you would need to purchase a core BE license and an Agent for Applications and Databases license for each of the applications/database on this new server. For your old server, you just need to purchase an AWS license and install it in this new server. As for the LTO4 tape drive, you can attach it to the new server and use it along with the LTO5 tape drive

I believe with BE 2010 SBS, the media server could be installed only on a SBS OS.

The media server needs to have the tape drive/library locally attached to itself. And, BE 2010 (preferably BE 2010 R3 or higher) can backup a Win 2008 R2 server to its locally attached tape storage.
