Backup Exec 2010 update Issue

Today, I tried to update BE2010. To my disappointment, it is failure. My system is windows 2008 R2
1. It shows the error "LU1812, a program that was part of this update failed when it ran.
2. Then I install the Hotfix by hand. Still no available
3. Error msg "Error 1406. Could not write value major version to key\software\symantec\backup exec for windows\backup exec\13.0\install, verify that you have sufficient access to that key"
4. I am the administrator. I check the permission of the key is full control.
5. I disable the UAC of windows 2008, restart server. It is still at the issue.

What shall I do?

Hello Jacky,
Do you have any Anti-virus running on that server. If Yes then try to exclude the C:\Program Files\Symantec  folder from anti-virus scanning as there are some technotes about it " http://support.veritas.com/docs/327283 " or you can disable the antivirus for some time till the installation is performed.

Also please refer to this technote " http://support.veritas.com/docs/316639 " as it seems to be very similar to this issue.

Thanks.

Hi buddy,

I have already removed the anti-virus software totally from the system. But it is still at the issue.

Still could not modify the key.

Sincerely!

Jacky

Hello Jacky,
In the Registry Editor browse to the registry location HKLM\software\symantec\backup exec for windows\backup exec\13.0\install and ensure that the DWord "Major Version"  (without quotes) is present and the value is set to 13 (decimal).

Also right click on  " Install" Registry key in the above location and select Permissions. ensure that the account with which you have logged in the server has Full Control over the Registry key.
