Backup Exec 2014 protect Ms.SQL using fibre transport

Hi All,

I have a case to backup Ms.SQL using BE 2014 via SAN. The SQL server has mounted a disk from IBM Storewize.

Is it possible to do that?

As I know, it is possible to backup using offhost backup. Is it possible to using MSDP as backup disk and possible to do online backup?

Please advice.

Thank you

Hi,

In order to do this via the SAN, you need the ENterprise Server Option licensed which includes SAN SSO. BE needs to be installed on the SQL server, and your media server needs to be zoned to see a FC-attached tape library, which will be shared with the SQL server.

THEN you can do a SAN-based backup.

Thanks!

...then ESO isn't required at all. You can get full licenses for the media server and SQL and load them onto that SQL server, present disk from your array, and backup to that via the SAN.

Thanks!
