Backup Exec 8.60

Hi! I am running Backup Exec on my Windows 2000 server. I recently started having a problem where the backup will not work. I replaced the DAT Drive and replaced the tapes, but it still does not work. My first problem was the tape would pause during the backup process and now the tape is ejected and the messages says, "loading media." Anyone have any ideas on why my backup suddenly stopped working?

Thanks for any help you can give.

Scott,

As you replaced the drive, you need to reconfigure the thing to make it detected correctly.

- Delete drive in BENT
- Check its SCSI id (3 would be perfect)
- Load latest Veritas drivers
http://support.veritas.com/docs/256251

- Disable Removable Storage service
- Launch the device configuration wizard

- Also check your default overwrite protection settings and alerts, I guess BENT is just blocked by the protection period (make sure it does not prompt you).

Hope this helps :)

What is BENT and how do I find it? I have done the updates.

Thanks for your help.

An acronym for Backup Exec for NT

That's the original name of BE 8.x versions

Thanks, I will give it a try and let you know how it turns out.

Thanks again.

If the tape ejects and the status is "loading media", you probably have an Alert to "Insert Overwritable tape"

Check your OPP (Overwrite Protection Period) to make sure that tapes are expired before they are due to be reused

(Also, note that you are in the v10 forum, not th v8.6 forum)
