Backup Exec Crashes Out when clicking on 'Restore' - Help Needed!!!

I have some major problems with my installation of Backup Exec 10 on my Exchange server (Windows 2000 SP4, Exchange 2000 SP3).

Following a reboot of the server, Backup Exec failed to open, upon further investigation I discovered that the tape device driver had become corrupt. The tape drive which I have installed on the server is an HP StorageWorks Ultrium 460 and I was using the HP device driver. After trying various attempts to try and get the device driver to load by uninstalling it and reinstalling it. I decided to uninstall Backup Exec and reinstall it along with the Veritas device drivers, following a successful install, the Veritas device drivers corrupted the Removable Storage database. I then uninstalled the Veritas device drivers and reinstalled the HP device drivers, following a couple of server reboots, I got Backup Exec to use the tape drive successfully.

The problem that I have now is that when I click the 'Restore' button at the top of the screen, Backup Exec closes. I haven't reinstalled the Backup Exec SP1 as yet, as I can't reboot the Exchange server at the moment.

Prior to the reboot which started all of this, the server was running extremely smoothly.

Therefore, if you are able to help at all with this I would appreciative.

Many thanks

I have since applied Service Pack 1, but it made no difference.

I believe this maybe related to a corrupt database, as Backup Exec crashes when I click the 'Restore' button at the top of the screen, which triggers an action to access the database.

If this is the possible issue can you assist with the usage of BEUtility application.

I have already gone through the process of completely removing the application, rebooting the server and then reinstalling the application. As well as installing SP1 and rebooting the server.

Thankyou for this information. I have just carried it out, the procedure completed successfully; but it hasn't resolved the issue - when I opened Backup Exec and clicked on the 'Restore' button it still crashes.

Is it possible for me to submit an export from 'BEDAIG.EXE' or another diagonistics utility, so you can analyze the output and gain a better understanding of the issue?

Many thanks,

Neil
