Hello,
I have seen a previous post around this but no solution was posted.
We have a BE2014 server on Windows 2012 and had a power failure in our Data Center.
Now the DeDuplication Volume will not mount.
The main issue seems to be trying to start the Backup Exec Deduplication Manager service.
When you try and start the service, you get an Error 1 : Incorrect Function
Looking at the event viewer, an Event ID: 1 is logged with the following description
The description for Event ID 1 from source spad cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
26016: SpaDB: RecoverDB failure.
I believe this is the postgresql db? How to I check/repair this?
We already tried to delete the Postmaster.pid file as decribed in http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH136974 with no luck.
Also found http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH212803 but have 12 weeks of retention, and do not want to lose all my backups!
Please help!

I would suggest that you log a support case with Symantec so that the engineer can take a look at this problem. If you mess with the files in the dedup folder you might cause irreparable damage to the dedup folder.

Would you browse to the Backup Exec directory using a cmd and run the following command -
spoold.exe --trace
Post / attach the output here. Thanks.

Hello VJWare, Here is the trace.
C:\Program Files\Symantec\Backup Exec>spoold.exe --trace
Error: 67: Database: connection to database crdb at localhost:10085 failed (could not connect to server: Connection refused (0x0000274D/10061)
Is the server running on host "localhost" and accepting
TCP/IP connections on port 10085?
)
Error: 53: Database Manager: could not access storage database (connection actively refused).
Error: 4: Failed to run database class
Error: 4: Failed to read startup mode
Thanks!

Start the postgresql 8.3 service and confirm if port 10085 is open for use by BE or not.

We can't becuase this server depends on the Backup Exec Deduplication Manager service, which won't start.

My bad, I misread and assumed the DeDupe Engine service is not starting and that's why i had suggested to run spoold --trace.
Would you instead run spad --trace -v and post the output here.
Lastly, have you tried this KB - https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH159564.html

Here is the spad trace.

I do have the folder \BackupExecDeduplicationStorageFolder\etc as described in https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH159564.html
Also we opened case with Symantec, hopefully they can find something!

I have a feeling certain sub-directories are missing and hence the error. Support will be able to determine once they have a look @ your setup.

Hello together
I hate the same problem.
Our Backup Server has installed the FP1 Beta.
The Backup Exec software must reinstalled. I’ve deinstalled the Backup Exec and install whit the newest Backup Exec 2015 ISO.
All work fine. But the Deduplication Folder don’t start.
I have fix it. The error was find in the registration.
That was my solution
