Backup Finishes with a few exceptions

Forum:

I just installed BEv10 this weekend, what a departure from previous rev.s, it's like the XP of W2K, so many bells and whistles. Once configured, I ran a full backup of my entire server. The whole thing archived nicely top three DLT tapes. However, the job log reported a few exceptions.

Exceptions:
Job Completion Status
Job ended: Monday, April 25, 2005 at 5:12:35 AM
Completed status: Completed with exceptions

Exceptions
Click an exception below to locate it in the job log
Backup- C: Unable to open the item C:\WINDOWS\system32\dhcp\tmp.edb - skipped.
Unable to open the item C:\WINDOWS\system32\wins\winstmp.mdb - skipped.

Why are there exceptions to dhcp and wins dbs?
What should happen in order to ensure a clean backup w/o these exceptions?

I veriefied the backup logon account is a member of the Administrators, Domain Admins, and other pertinent global groups with full security access to every object on this server.

Have you seen this message before?

Thanks all,

This file can be excluded from backup; WINS will recreated it you ever needed to do a restore of the WINS folder; if it's impotant to you that it get's backed up, you can alway do a pre-job "Net Stop WINS" and post-job "Net Start WINS".

btw... the WINS management console also contains an option for backing up the WINS database.

Hi,

Normally when you take backup ,the files which are open or active are not backed up and thus show as skipped in the logs.

The files you are referring are the "open files" as DHCP and WINS services are running at the time of backup.

To exclude these errors you have to either...

1. Unselect the respective folders from the selection list.
c:\windows\system32\dhcp
c:\windows\system32\wins

OR

2.Take the backup using AOFO(Open file Option). For this you have to install AOFO option.
